About
A family business working on our own neighbours' homes
Thoughtful planning, dependable workmanship, and durable results for your home.
Who we are
Strachan Builders is a family-owned residential construction, repair, and renovation company based in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. Aaron runs the building side and is the one on site; Megan handles the administration, scheduling, and the paperwork that keeps a job organised.
We work on a wide range of homes — including older properties that have taken decades of Northern Ontario winters, and newer ones that need the details done right the first time. That means we care about what is behind the finish, not just how it looks from the road.
Our local presence matters. The homes we improve remain part of the community, and our reputation depends on work that performs well over time.
How we work
We show up when we say we will, we tell you what we find, and we put the scope in writing before anything starts. If something on your job turns out different than expected once we open it up, you hear about it right away — not at the end with a surprise on the invoice.
We also post progress as jobs go: scaffolding up, sheathing on, siding section by section. It keeps us honest and it gives you a sense of what the process actually looks like on a real house.
Part of the community
Working here means occasionally stepping in on things that are not jobs at all — like boarding up an unsafe vacant house near a worksite so nobody wanders into it. That is not a service we sell. It is just what you do when you live here.
Standards
What you can count on
Nothing flashy here. Just the things that make a job go the way it should.
- 01
Family owned and operated
Aaron leads construction and Megan manages administration and scheduling, providing direct access to the people responsible for your project.
- 02
Local to Kirkland Lake
Our work is rooted in the Kirkland Lake community, where local knowledge and long-term reputation matter.
- 03
Built for this climate
Frost, snow load, and freeze-thaw punish shortcuts. We build assuming Northern Ontario weather, because it is coming either way.
- 04
Clear communication
If a repair makes more sense than a replacement, we will say so. If we find something unexpected, you hear about it before we act on it.

★★★★★“They were honest, professional, fast, and very reasonable.”
★★★★★“Megan and Aaron have had over a decade of experience on private homes, camps, commercial buildings working for various reputable companies in those years of skill building. They are personable, kind and caring people who take pride in their work and go above and beyond where they can!”
★★★★★“Honestly, these walls have been through it... thanks to my teenagers 😅 I swear every dent, hole, and mystery mark had a story I didn’t even want to hear. But somehow they came in and made everything look brand new again—like my kids don’t live here at all 😂 Super easy to deal with, showed up on time, and cleaned up so well I didn’t even have to stress about the mess. 10/10 recommend if your house has been “loved” a little too hard like mine!”
★★★★★“A round of applause for the amazing work behind Strachan Builders. Aaron and Megan are two of the most determined and hardworking people I know. They have both worked incredibly hard at creating a path that is inspiring and rewarding. With the dream of building something meaningful for their children and community, they deserve every opportunity to succeed. Aaron has always had a strong work ethic and does amazing work, he has a real talent. He truly takes pride in everything he creates, down to the small details. His focus and dedication to his work is something you don’t find anywhere, and he genuinely cares about doing the job right. They started this company to help community members by providing honest, reputable and reliable work. Whether the job is roofing, siding, decks or fences, I know they will put their heart into every single project. Put your trust in Aaron and Megan, you will not be disappointed in just how far they will go to make sure you are happy with all your project needs!”
